With high expectations after their drubbing of the Mats last season, a confident girls’ softball team beat Miramonte on April 11, 14-0.

“We knew they were an easy team going into it but they definitely have improved from last year. We knew that we needed to win,” said sophomore player Cassie Charlton.

According to senior captain Katelyn Poole, the lopsided score was the result of Campolindo’s superior skill. “We didn’t make that many errors, played together, communicated, and of course, won,” she said.

Sophomore player Kira Jamgotchian also said the victory was the result of “superior” talent.

Assistant coach Wayne Stephens also believes his squad’s success is a result of their unity. “We are a very capable team and can compete at a high level when we play as a team and support each other. Offensively everyone executed what was asked of them, allowing us to score the 14 runs that we did,” he said.

Charlton said that while the game offered an opportunity to “play well together,” was already looking ahead to playing Acalanes on April 18.  The Dons split their games with the Cougars in 2018.

Acalanes is “on more of our level,” said Jamgotchian. “In order to beat Acalanes we have to work hard and call the ball as well as not making simple mistakes.”

Poole said the team’s goals after the impressive win over Miramonte is to “beat Acalanes, work on communication, and make it to the NCS playoffs.”

“We are looking to build a solid defensive team to be able to be ready to complete and into go deep into NCS playoffs. With the over all goal to win a NCS title,” concluded Stephens.
