Campo tops undefeated Las Lomas in league tournament

The Campo varsity golf coaches have seen it all season-long, flashes of brilliance that didn't always materialize into victories. However, at the Diablo Athletic League season-ending tournament at Diablo Creek, it all came together and the Cougars came out on top. Led by sophomore sensation Baron Szeto, who was the medalist for the whole event with a two under par 69, Campolindo edged Las Lomas by two strokes to win it all. Szeto was followed by teammate and fellow soph John Lagomarsino, who carded a 76 to finish 4th.  Junior Ryan Brown came through with sizzling 77, even after having to borrow a wedge from teammate Jacob Ryerson. Lucas Nomura has surged into top form to finish the season. Nomura did not disappoint with a solid 79.  Ryerson finished out the Campo scoring with 83.  Sophomore Austin Walker was also solid with an 85. Final score Campo 384, Las Lomas 386, Acalanes 394.

Leading up to the DAL tournament, the Cougars posted some impressive scores in several different events.  Szeto once again shined with a sizzling one under 34 in a Tri-Match against Miramonte at Orinda CC. Ryerson followed with a solid 40, along with Lagomarsino at 42.

Campolindo also knocked off Concord on the Cougars home course at Moraga CC. Walker turned in his best performance of the season with a 40, followed by sophomore Joey Schmidt at 42 and Junior Joe Marinai and sophomore Andrew Pan, both rolling to 44s.

The Cougars also beat Miramonte in a head to head match at Moraga CC. Lagomarsino was the medalist with a 40, followed by Szeto at 41 and sophomore Joey Schmidt with a 43.

Two days later, the Cougars traveled to Boundary Oak and put a serious scare into league-leading Las Lomas, narrowly losing by just two strokes. That is despite not having the services of team leader Szeto, who was playing in a national tournament out of state. Campo was led by Lagomarsino, who carded an even par 36.  Marinai followed with a 39, Walker shot 42 and senior captain Justin Feldman fired a 43.  Ryerson and Brown followed with 44 and 45 respectively.

The Cougars also had couple of bright performances in the Transbay Touranment at Rossmoor's Dollar Ranch. Brown led the Cougars with an 80, followed by Walker with an 82. Marinai also had a solid performance.
