Kelly McYoung

Kelly has an extensive background in swimming and water polo which led her into her coaching career. She grew up swimming for the Gehringer Park Gators from the age of three until she aged out at eighteen. She attended Ygnacio Valley High School where she participated in water polo, basketball and swimming and earned eleven varsity letters. Kelly was inducted into the YVHS athletic hall of fame in 2017. She continued her passion for sports at Diablo Valley College where she went on to becoming an All American water polo player and swimmer as well as an all conference basketball player. Kelly was inducted into the DVC athletic hall of fame in 2012. Most currently Kelly was the Carondelet High School varsity water polo coach from 2013-2016 and was the lead swim instructor at Little Swimmers swim school from 2015-2019. Presently Kelly coaches water polo for Lamorinda water polo club and just finished out her sixth season as head coach with the Gehringer Park Gators.

A 2018 graduate of Cal State University East Bay with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development, she plans to pursue a career in elementary teaching and is in the process of getting her teaching credentials. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her family and enjoys being a new mom with her fourteen month old son! Kelly’s coaching philosophy is built around three core principles – sportsmanship, accountability, and integrity. She emphasizes that it is important to lead by example and hopes to instill these core values in her players to carry with them in and out of the pool and as they continue on their journey through life.
