The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has announced adjustments for the athletic seasons of sport. These adjustments follow new California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines: Outdoor and Indoor Youth and Recreational Adult Sports. The new guidelines maintain a tiered approach to sports, with sports placed in a specific tier depending on risk level.
Under the new guidelines, sports may be played out of tier with enhanced safety protocols. Some outdoor sports previously prohibited until the Red Tier (girl's lacrosse, baseball and softball) and Orange Tier (football, water polo, boy's lacrosse, and soccer) may be played prior to our county reaching Red and Orange Tier data, but no earlier than February 26. Under the new guidelines, enhanced safety precautions, such as weekly testing, will be utilized.
Stay tuned for more information on the implications for Campo's sports team.
The California Department of Public Health(CDPH) recommends in their Guidance for Outdoor and Indoor Youth and Recreational Adult Sports that, “Athletes and coaches should cohort by team, and refrain from participating with more than one team over the same season or time period.” CDPH has clarified with CIF that this is a recommendation and not a mandate.
To support student and community safety, the AUHSD discourages participation in more than one cohort. In our current status in the Purple Tier, athletes will not be allowed to participate in more than one Campolindo High School cohort/team with our in season sports and off-season camps.
CIF has reinstated the waiver of CIF Bylaw 600-605. Students are discouraged from participating with outside teams or events in the same or different sports while participating with a Campolindo High School team in their season of sport or an off-season sports camp.
